Do's and Dont's of Ageing Skin

Dos and Don'ts of Ageing Skin

If you want to age gracefully, you must take care of your skin. Skincare is not just about what you put on your skin, but also what you consume. How well you take care of your body reflects on your skin, hence why changes in your diet affect your skin’s health. Here are a few dos and don’ts of ageing.

Don'ts

Don’t smoke

Smoking causes faster ageing of facial skin. Smokers get vertical wrinkles around the mouth, and they also develop crow’s feet much earlier than non-smokers. A lot of the toxins from cigarette smoke damage collagen and elastin, fibrous components of the skin that help your skin maintain its elasticity.

Avoid sugar

Sugar attaches itself to collagen, causing it to breakdown much faster. As you age, collagen production decreases, so the last thing you want is to compromise whatever volume of collagen you have left. Instead of snacking on sweets and processed foods, eat fruits and nuts instead.

Do’s

Apply sunscreen

Exposing your skin to ultraviolet radiation damages your skin’s collagen and elastin. Sun exposure causes premature ageing causing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Always apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or more and broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Add another layer of protection during sunny days by wearing sunglasses and a broad-brimmed hat.

Moisturise

Dry skin appears more damaged and aged. Apply a generous amount of moisturiser after getting out of the shower to seal moisture into your skin. The thicker the moisturiser, the better it is for ageing skin. Also, look out for ingredients such as glycerine and hyaluronic acid in your products because they help hold moisture in the skin.

Supplement

As we age, our bodies are unable to produce adequate collagen. Supplementing allows you to replenish what your body cannot make or what is inadequate. Collagen supplements, particularly Kollo premium liquid marine collagen are a must-have for ageing skin. Kollo marine collagen is infused with amino acids, 10,000 mg marine collagen, and vitamins B and C to help you maintain healthy skin. Perfectly packaged in a sachet, Kollo premium liquid collagen makes it easier for you to get your daily dose of collagen.
