How Kollo Health began

In 2009, Jenni was training for marathons and experiencing the joint pain that comes with logging serious mileage on pavements. A TV doctor colleague recommended collagen supplements for joint recovery and cartilage support. Jenni started with collagen powder and noticed the difference - not just in her joints, but in her skin, hair and nails too.

Over the following decade, as she completed marathon after marathon, collagen became a non-negotiable part of her daily routine. But she was frustrated by the products available. Low doses. Poor quality ingredients. Formats that were inconvenient to take consistently.

In 2020, Jenni and her husband James co-founded Kollo Health - built around a simple ambition: create the highest quality, most bioavailable marine collagen supplement available in the UK. 10,000mg of Naticol® marine collagen peptides. Vitamin C and B vitamins included. Informed Choice certified. One sachet daily.

"When I started creating my own liquid collagen brand I quickly realised there are so many more amazing benefits. This little wonder product has benefits for skin, hair and nails as well as bones, cartilage and general health and wellbeing." Jenni Falconer, Co-Founder of Kollo Health

Jenni's daily supplement routine

Jenni takes Kollo every single day - something she has done consistently since launching the brand. As someone who gets up at 4am to host Smooth Radio's breakfast show six days a week, convenience and consistency matter. One sachet mixed into a small amount of water takes seconds and she notices the difference when she misses it.

As Jenni has moved through her late 40s, she has also started taking Kollo Balance+ - the liquid menopause supplement she and James developed as the second Kollo product. Balance+ is packed with botanicals including lion's mane, ashwagandha, sage and magnesium alongside a full vitamin complex - designed for the specific challenges of perimenopause and menopause.

Running and Kollo

Running is the thread that connects everything in Jenni's life - her health, her work and Kollo itself. She completed her first marathon in her 30s and has run ten London Marathons to date. She is the UK ambassador for the fitness app Start2Run and through RunPod has interviewed hundreds of runners from Olympic gold medallists to complete beginners.

The connection between running and collagen is direct. Tendons are approximately 85% collagen. Cartilage is approximately 70% collagen. The repetitive impact of marathon training puts enormous stress on both - and consistent collagen supplementation at a clinical dose supports the repair and maintenance of these structures. Read more about this in our guide to collagen for joint health and our complete guide to Kollo Flex+.

Jenni also times her collagen supplementation around training sessions - taking it approximately 30 to 60 minutes before exercise to maximise peptide availability during the increased blood flow that physical activity creates. This approach is supported by research from Dr Keith Baar's group demonstrating significantly increased collagen synthesis in connective tissue when collagen is taken pre-exercise.

Runner's High - Jenni's debut book

Published in March 2024 by Orion Spring, Runner's High brings together everything Jenni has learned from her own running journey and from the hundreds of guests she has interviewed on RunPod. Part guide, part memoir, it covers training, injury, kit, the mental health benefits of running and the particular joy of the London Marathon - which Jenni describes as being like a very large, very friendly club.

The book is deliberately inclusive - written for runners of all abilities, from those who run once a week around the park to those chasing marathon PBs. It reflects the same ethos that RunPod has built its audience around: running is for everyone, regardless of pace or distance.

Jenni at Kollo today

Jenni remains actively involved in Kollo Health as co-founder. Since launching in 2020 with just the liquid marine collagen, the brand has grown to a multi-product range, won numerous industry awards including Best in Test in Women's Running Magazine, been featured on ITV This Morning and attracted over 7,000 five-star reviews from verified customers.

What started as a collagen-first brand has grown into a full health and wellness company, with every product that followed built on the same founding principle: science-led formulations using clinically studied ingredients at doses that actually work. From Balance+ for the specific challenges of perimenopause and menopause, to Pure Creatine for muscle and cognitive performance, Flex+ for joint support and Electrolytes+ for daily hydration - Kollo is now one of the UK's most complete science-led supplement ranges for women.

Kollo is not a celebrity endorsement or a side project. It is something Jenni uses every day, built around products she genuinely needed and could not find elsewhere at the quality she wanted.
