10000mg marine collagen daily dose

Is it necessary to have 10000mg marine collagen daily?

Every Kollo sachet contains 10,000mg, or 10 grams, of premium marine collagen peptides. In other words, you put 10 grams of that high-grade collagen into your body every day to fuel the process of creating new collagen in your body. You may come across other collagen supplements that contain 2 grams or 5 grams of collagen peptides. This begs the question: is it necessary to have 10000mg marine collagen every day?

Well, when developing Kollo, we followed the science. We believe this is the optimal daily dosage to get the wide range of age-defying benefits you want from your collagen supplement. Read on to learn why we chose this dosage as well as the other choices we made for Kollo.

What is collagen for?

Collagen is actually a protein that our body naturally produces. It is an abundant one in our bodies, and the bodies of many animals, providing structure to various tissues. These include skin, tendons and muscles, as well as bones, teeth and various internal organs. With high levels of collagen, these areas of the body are firm and strong, and the cells within them are healthy. Unfortunately, as we age, our collagen levels decline and we start to experience the early signs of ageing.

These include:
  • Sagging skin

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Thinning hair and nails

  • Stiff, aching joints

  • Loss of bone density and muscle mass

We can counter these things by boosting our collagen levels. Our bodies need specific amino acids and other nutrients to synthesise collagen. Some of these are difficult to get in the required quantities through diet alone.

This is where collagen supplements come in, packed with collagen peptides derived from animals. These supply a wealth of those amino acids to fuel our bodies with everything they need to speed up collagen production.

How much collagen does my body need from supplements?

As mentioned, every serving of Kollo includes 10000mg of marine collagen. Marine collagen comes from the skin and scales of fish. Once extracted, it goes through a process called hydrolysis to break the large molecules down to smaller amino acid chains. We call these collagen peptides. They are far easier for our bodies to absorb, so you will get the greatest benefit from collagen in a hydrolysed form.

We didn’t arrive at the 10000mg dosage at random. There are many anti-ageing and health benefits to collagen supplements, but research indicates they all need different amounts of collagen. They also take different amounts of time to materialise. It’s important to note that, at present, there is no official guideline for the recommended daily allowance of collagen.

Let’s take a look at what the science says about what’s needed to experience the various benefits of collagen.

Improved skin hydration and elasticity

There have been various studies into the role of collagen supplementation in improving the health and condition of your skin. The consensus is that the hydration, elasticity, smoothness and density of skin can improve from taking collagen peptides. It may surprise you to learn that it actually doesn’t take a huge dosage of collagen to experience these benefits.

One study concluded that a daily dosage of 2.5 to 5 grams per day could yield benefits for skin elasticity in as little as 4 weeks. Another study indicated that greater success could come from taking 10 grams of collagen peptides each day. This study suggested the more pronounced results would begin to emerge after approximately 9 weeks.

Improved joint health

If you seek relief from discomfort relating to osteoarthritis or merely advancing age, studies show that collagen peptides can help. The research suggests that a dosage of between 8 and 12 grams per day can provide the collagen necessary to relieve symptoms.

Some studies have even suggested that higher dosages – up to 40 grams – might be the best way to experience these benefits. However, the majority of research doesn’t suggest a need for anything like this much.

Participants in these studies found that it might take 3-6 months to start noticing a difference in joint suppleness and comfort. Continuous use of collagen in the 1-12 grams daily dosage range may also help with a later onset of joint pain during exercise.

Improved bone density

Loss of bone density is a problem that relates to declining collagen levels, and this can lead to issues like fractures and osteoporosis. Research has indicated that collagen supplementation can help restore bone density. A daily dosage in the region of 5 grams can help bring about these results.

The studies suggest that these results generally take longer to experience. It could be 12 months before your bone density improves with collagen supplementation.

Improved muscle mass

If your goal is to improve muscle mass, collagen supplements can help as they are a protein. Studies show that a dosage of 10-15 grams per day might be a good guideline to follow. Combined with exercise, that quantity of daily collagen could also help with losing fat and building strength.

Why we chose 10000mg marine collagen for Kollo

We looked at all the available research into the effectiveness of collagen supplements. The tests with different dosages led to the conclusions listed above and various others. We used this information to inform what we thought would be the optimal dosage to deliver the widest range of benefits

Skin health is generally considered to contribute to the health of hair and nails, since these grow from follicles or roots in the skin. So it was clear to us that our customers would get the most cosmetic benefit from having more than 5 grams of collagen per day. Similarly, we wanted to deliver the necessary dosage for all the other key benefits, so we had to consider all these factors.

Essentially, it amounted to supplying the daily dosage required for the benefit that needs the highest dosage. At 10000mg (10 grams), Kollo covers all the bases for the health and cosmetic benefits you could want. The existing science supports that daily dosage, and our thousands of satisfied customers have reported improvements in:

  • Skin

  • Hair

  • Nails

  • Joints

  • Bones

  • Energy levels

  • Sleep

  • Muscle mass

Other key features of Kollo

In addition to the 10000mg daily dosage, there are various other choices we made during development. The goal was to ensure Kollo delivers the greatest benefits for you. The key features of Kollo that set us apart are:

Marine collagen

We choose to add 10000mg marine collagen as opposed to bovine or porcine collagen. This is because the science has shown that marine collagen, derived from the skin and scales of fish, is the most bioavailable. What this means is that it is very easy for our bodies to absorb the collagen peptides and use the amino acids to fuel collagen production. So we chose marine collagen to maximise the benefits you get from the supplement.

A liquid supplement

Collagen supplements tend to come in powder, pill or liquid form. We chose to make Kollo a liquid supplement for the following reasons:

  • Your body doesn't need to break liquid down to access the nutrients, so it can absorb the collagen peptides fast.

  • In a liquid suspension, we could add a high dosage of collagen peptides and ensure it is perfectly consistent from one serving to the next.

  • A liquid collagen shot like Kollo is easy to add to water each day, so it only takes a minute to get your daily dose. With our natural tropical flavourings, it tastes great as well!

Additional nutrients

Collagen peptides provide amino acids like glycine, proline and hydroxyproline. These fuel the creation of collagen within your body. But the processes by which that collagen is created also need nutrients, and we have thought of that too.

Every sachet of Kollo contains B vitamins, vitamin C and l-lysine. Basically, we give your body all it needs to maximise its ability to synthesise new collagen and deliver the benefits you want.
